Is There An Email App That Will Store Data On An Sd Card

Inactive profile

Hi Fuzzy Z,

Welcome to Microsoft Community.

We're glad to assist your concern about Outlook.com app storage. Please be informed that the location of the cache of a certain app depends on its mobile device settings. Most probably, the cache of the data of the app, Outlook.com app in your case, is located on where its information has been saved. With regards on how you can target the cache to a different location other than its original location, you might want to confirm it with your mobile manufacturer.

Hope this helps. Let us know if you need further assistance.

Thanks,

My question was 'where does outlook.com android app cache its data?'.

you said "Please be informed that the location of the cache of a certain app depends on its mobile device settings. Most probably, the cache of the data of the app, Outlook.com app in your case, is located on where its information has been saved." which restates my question but does not answer it.

Where does outlook.com app keep its downloaded email data?? If its on /data or /cache

they are unix file systems and a soft link redirect is possible, if its on /sdcard its fat32 and not

movable by file system redirects.

Hi Fuzzy Z,

I'm sorry but pointing where the Outlook.com app for Android data is stored is not possible. The app puts data to perfom as designed.

Thank you.

So thus means the app stores all the email data on the device internal storage,  not on the sd Card and it is impossible to change this.

Have I understood correctly?

Hi TiberiusTom,

Thank you for posting your question here in Microsoft Community. We understand that you wish to know how the cached data on Outlook.com being stored on your mobile device.

By default, installing the Outlook.com app will be installed on the internal memory of the device. Some other mobile devices have the ability to move the apps from internal memory to external storage (e.g. SD).  Now if your mobile device is capable of doing so, then the Outlook.com app can be moved to SD storage. However, we cannot guarantee if all the components of Outlook.com app are being moved as well. We suggest that you contact your mobile device manufacturer for further assistance.

Let us know if you have other questions.

Regards,

Johayber T.

That was a very poor answer.  I assume Microsoft did some testing.  I have the very popular S5, most apps move the memory to the SD card.   It does not appear that it does but can someone at MS say for sure.

I have the outlook app on my Samsun tablet 4.

I set a picture to myself using my computer so I could download it using my tablet.

I open outlook on my tablet and downloaded the picture 2 or 3 times but I have no idea where it went.

Can anyone help?

Has anybody been able to determine if Microsoft plans to update the Outlook app so that it is capable of storing data on the SD card?  Or, is there some funny hidden trick to do this.

So that we don't get into another loop of "your mobile device", allow me to qualify the following:

--> We are only concerned about versions of Android that support either moving an app to the SD card or allowing an app to access data on SD card (e.g. modern versions that basically everybody uses now)

--> We know that most phones have not re-written Android to prevent the above mentioned functionality.  But if there is a phone with blocks preventing an app from working as designed, we are not concerned about these phone either.

From a pure Microsoft App perspective -- is there a way to have Outlook store data on the SD card.  If not, will that functionality be added?

Thanks!
